NORTHERN CARDINAL Cardinalis cardinalis
I've seen a couple males but have yet to photograph one in
the State.
The NORTHERN CARDINAL is a very scarce & local resident
along the Colorado River. The entire native state population of the Arizona
race superba is likely less than a dozen pairs. There is a small
introduced population in El Monte LA of the eastern nominate race (I have
seen these), and escapes from captivity are occasionally encountered. These
are my personal Northern Cardinal records:
4/27/75 Earp SBE
male
4/30/77 Earp SBE male
